Membership
-
Do I have to be a member to attend your church?
No. Every week we enjoy visitors from all walks of life as well as frequent attenders who have not joined our church. Make no mistake about it, we believe God's plan is for every believer to belong and thrive as a member of a local body of believers. We are ready to assist you whether you are seeking to join our church or just "checking us out."
-
How do I become a member of your church?
There are four basic ways in which you would join the church:
1. Commit your life to Christ. (This means you have accepted or want to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.)
2. Join our church by baptism. (If you are coming as a new Christian who has not been baptized or if you are coming from a church of another denomination)
3. Join the church from another Baptist Church (If you want to transfer a membership letter from another Baptist church.)
4. Join our church by statement. (If your church membership record is not available for transfer, or if you were once, though not presently, a Baptist church member.)
If you are interested in joining our church family, we recommend that you come forward during the response time at the end of the worship service to indicate your desires. This is the best way to get plugged in and establish relationships quickly. You also have the option of communicating your intentions with a minister at your convenience.
-
How can I find out if my membership information is on file at FBCLJ?
Contact the Pastor’s ministry assistant at 297-2496 ext. 12 and she can provide you with that information.
-
How can I transfer my membership to another church?
Ask the new church to submit a request for letter of transfer to our church office and they will handle the rest. It is a good idea to follow up with the new church to make sure they have received and recorded what our office has sent them.

Paperwork and Forms
-
Is paperwork required to reserve facilities, vans or to plan an event?
At a minimum, a Facilities Request Form must be completed. In many cases, a drawing of the desired setup is necessary. You may sketch this setup on the appropriate room diagram - all our facility diagrams and the Facility Request Form can be found on our Church Paperwork page. All forms are required to be submitted to the church office. Sorry, no electronic copies will be accepted.
-
Do events/camps require a medical release form?
Any event or camp in our children and youth ministries that involves travel requires a church medical and liability release form and some organizations with whom we partner (i.e. camps) also require additional forms. It is best to always have a form on file in the youth and children's offices. These forms are annual forms and are required to be updated each year. We also require proof of insurance to be on file.
-
Is a notary required when filling out youth and children medical release forms?
In the youth ministry, YES. In the children's ministry, NO. The reason for the difference is because our older students typically travel further and go to events where this is more of a requirement.
-
Can I just sign my student's form and send it to the church to be notarized?
No, our notary licenses requires that the form(s) be signed by a parent in the presence of the notary. Please come into the church office where we have notaries on site that can assist you.
-
Do I have to come to the office to pick up a medical release form or camp form?
No, you may either pick up a copy here at the church or you may visit our Church Paperwork page and download from there. You, however, must return completed forms to the church office as electronic copies are not accepted. Our office must have the original copies.
-
Do we need to provide proof of insurance with our youth and children forms?
If you have insurance for your child we would like a copy of your card so we may attach to their forms. This will help expedite things if we ever need to take your child to the emergency room.

Worship Services
-
Where is the church located?
We are in the heart of Lake Jackson at 401 Yaupon St. Please see a map and other key information about our location here.
-
Where do I go if I'm a first time visitor?
To make it easy, we recommend that all visitors come in the main entrance on Yaupon St. The main entrance is a set of double-glass doors just to the right of the big blue "First Baptist Church" sign (see pic to the right). You will find a nice crosswalk from our parking lot and a wide sidewalk with handrails that ushers you into the building. Once you enter the building, you will be met by a greeter who can assist you to the Welcome Center. From there, helpful folks will direct you (even escort you) to your meeting place.
-
When are your main services and ministries?
For starters, visitors typically like to know the times of our worship services and Sunday School small group time. Our Sunday School for all ages is each Sunday at 9:00 a.m. Our Sunday morning worship service is at 10:30 a.m. and our evening worship service is at 6:00 p.m. Of course, there is so much more going on. For more times, please see our full ministry schedule.
-
What should I wear when I come to church?
Whatever makes you comfortable. Our congregation is very diverse, as you will see guys wear everything from suits to jeans and casual shirt (and everything in between). We have ladies that wear dress pants and others wear dresses. It's not uncommon to see folks in shorts. Essentially, we want you to be yourself while being a part of a faith family that recognizes the importance of reverence and respect for our Lord.
-
Do you have a nursery for smaller children?
Yes. Please visit our Preschool Ministry page for more details.
-
What style of worship will I experience in worship services?
This is a tough one only because people tend to get tripped up by terms and preconceived notions. In our services, you will enjoy a balance of hymns, praise choruses, and the latest songs of adoration. You can expect to be lead by a worship leader assisted by an ensemble and a full choir. Our vocalists are backed by a fantastic five piece band complete with guitars, drums and keyboard and piano. At FBCLJ, there is freedom to worship whether you like to raise your hands, clap, shout or be perfectly still. We'll leave that between you and God!
You can also expect music specials like vocal solos or instrumentals. You'll see an occasional skit or video that compliments our time together. -
Can I get a DVD copy of the worship service or sermon?
Yes. DVDs of services are available through the Music Office (297-2496) at a cost of $5 each. You may also visit our sermon page and view past sermons.
-
Are your worship services on TV?
Yes. Please see our TV schedule here.
