WHAT IS CAMP BARNABAS?
LAST YEAR AT CAMP BARNABAS: EXTREME MAKEOVER
FBC took a record number, 51, to serve at Camp Barnabas July 6-13, 2005. It was yet another tremendous year of service. Our students and adults served at "Multiple Disabilities" week which means we assisted children with both mental and physical disabilities. We hope you enjoy our pictures where you will find our students and adults having fun and assisting campers. What is not seen is the hard work behind the scenes by student counselors helping campers with showers, hygiene, dressing, eating and everyday chores. Barnstormers swept, cleaned, scrubbed, waitered, washed and set up for parties. In the midst of the hard work and fun, we shared Jesus through song and testimony. Our prayer is that lives were touched and encouraged by our efforts. We were changed forever.
In August we returned to Barnabas aware there was a 1 in 5 chance that Barnabas could be selected for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Of course, we could not send as many since the school year had started, but 7 people returned to serve the kids in Term 10. Ty Pennington and the crew did show up for an extreme week! What an experience. For details about the week, please review the links to pictures and article on this page.
WHAT IS CAMP BARNABAS?
Camp Barnabas is a non-denominational Christian Summer Camp where special needs children and their siblings experience an awesome, life-changing week of camp. The camp utilizes a predominantly volunteer summer staff and gives young adults the opportunity to serve God as they minister to the campers.
Camp Barnabas is unlike any mission endeavor most people have experienced. Participants serve and assist handicapped children for one week. Participants aged 16 and over have 24-hour-a-day care of a handicapped child. Students aged 14 and 15 (or 9th graders aged 13) are workers around the camp, doing chores like cleaning, serving food, and other camp chores. This service is unbelievably fun! All participants experience the excitement of a giant swimming pool, riding horses, canoeing, ropes course, shooting rifles and bows and arrows, great groups games, hiking, just to name of few of the fun things.
If you are interested in a mission trip that will stretch you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to be more like Jesus, then Barnabas '06 is for you!
